We will start the “Pebble Count” on Rudist Reef Reach, Bessie’s Creek this Thursday and Friday 9:00 a.m.- Noon. Contact Tom Denyer at [email protected] or 830 522 4566. It will be wet and slippery.
The “Pebble Count” is a simple but elegant protocol in use since at least 1954. It provides baseline estimates of how much and what types of sediment (e.g., sand, gravel, cobble) a stream has transported. These estimates then help monitor changes in stream function and suggest guidelines for riparian restoration.
