January 10 @ 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

SAVE-THE-GARDEN DAY

Wed, January 10, 10AM-1PM

 Bandera Natural History Museum

267 Old San Antonio Highway, Bandera

One of the Master Naturalist Pollinator Gardens, the largest of the three (30ft. diameter), is in trouble.  The plants are suffocating underneath six to eight inches of hard-packed, cardboard-like mulch.  On evaluation, a fairly simple, inexpensive remedy has been suggested, in creating furrows and filling them with high-quality compost.  We’ll need the help of a group of volunteers to get this done in a half day or less.

The work will consist of the following:

  • SMALL/ MED TRUCK to bring in two yards of compost from Burning Tree in Helotes: Mark Hults has volunteered.
  • SHOVELERS: to get the compost out of the truck bed.
  • HANDS-AND-KNEES: volunteers ‘trowel-digging’ furrows between the existing plants, across the width of the garden.
  • BUCKET CARRIERS to deliver compost for the furrows
  • BUCKET CARRIERS to scoop out old compost and transfer to Mark’s truck for his disposal.

Please consider coming out to help us save this garden. The Museum grounds are peaceful, and volunteers may tour the Museum interior free of charge when finished working.
