The trail team at YMCA Roberts Ranch, outside of Comfort, is looking for volunteers to help clear and construct a newly flagged trail. Trail-work is scheduled for every Wednesday. We will be meeting at The Pavilion — 1.8 miles in from the gate– at 8:30. Safety reviews are required before any work begins.
The newly flagged trail is through rocky country and a priority is to remove rocks to create a 3 ft wide trail.
This can be as easy as tossing rocks aside, and more challenging, removing larger ones with a rock bar or other tool.
There are branches to be lopped and cleared. Later the trail will need to be groomed and smoothed with bow rakes (garden rakes).
Volunteers should wear hiking boots, work gloves, hats and bring plenty of water.
DO NOT attempt to use your phone or any navigation device to get to the Ranch. If you do, 550 Roberts Ranch Road will lead you to locked gates on private property.
We need to be contacted by volunteers who would like to join the trail team, so we have a master list. We will send out plans each week to these volunteers letting them know what work we’ll be doing each Wednesday.
We need to send out explicit directions to the Ranch for first time volunteers, as using any navigational devices send people to a dead end gate on private property.
