Due to extremely cold temperatures for this part of the country, work was suspended until warmer weather. However, a “silt curtain,” as it is called, was installed around the brush pile that was created when crews cleared the area along Riverside Drive above the wetlands flood zone.
The Lost Pines Nature Trails and Colorado River Refuge are on the edge of the Houston Toad habitat and are, therefore, subject to rules and regulations protecting the toads. Today I learned this is the mating season for Houston Toads, so extreme caution is required for their protection and the protection of habitat they might choose as a refuge. Thus, the brush pile, which will be destroyed during the make-over, must be sealed off to prevent Houston Toads that might be in the area from setting up house under the pile.
