Often I’ve wondered how boulders were deposited where they are. Did they just crack and fall off of a bigger rock? Or did a giant force of nature move them across a longer distance?
Many of the boulders at Canyon Lake Gorge, it turns out, were tossed around from the flood of 2002.
There is one area of the gorge that has a significant amount of boulder deposits, and the story behind these boulders is really inspiring!
During the 2002 flood, there was one oak tree-
ONE oak tree –
that did not let go in the flood.
That one tree slowed the current.
The one tree stopped the stones.
That one oak tree stands alive to this day with boulders at its back— evidence of a battle won.
That’s a greater feat than I ever could have imagined as I wondered about the stories behind the stones.
