Sand Dune Grass and Seed Planting – Follet’s Island

February 19 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Centers (NCCOC) states: ” Sand dunes offer ecosystem services, including defense from surge and waves during storm events, habitat for wildlife, tourism, recreation, and carbon sequestration.”

Most all know that the sand dunes on our local Brazoria County beaches seemingly continue to erode and help is needed to both protect and restore them.  Brenda Stitt’s Eco Fund project for Dune Restoration is in need of volunteers to help plant grasses and seed on a selected dune site at Kelly Hamby Park on Follet’s island.

Volunteers should consider bringing work gloves, knee pads, planting hand spade and insect repellent.
