Sand Dune Native Grass Planting – Follet’s Island

February 28 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Centers (NCCOC) states: ” Sand dunes offer ecosystem services, including defense from surge and waves during storm events, habitat for wildlife, tourism, recreation, and carbon sequestration.”

Most all know that the sand dunes on our local Brazoria County beaches seemingly continue to erode and help is needed to both protect and restore them.  Volunteers are needed to help plant native grasses at selected site(s) on Follet’s island.  Brenda Stitt and Biologist Jim Olive will lead the planting effort.

Volunteers are asked to arrive at San Luis County Park Headquarters by 9 AM to receive instruction, then begin work afterwards.

Volunteers should consider bringing work gloves, knee pads, planting hand spade, sun screen and insect repellent.

As a special treat, LUNCH will be provided under the pavilion.
