Join us for our first HYBRID Deep Dive before the October Blackland Prairie Chapter meeting. Our Asian American Outreach Committee hosts this month’s Deep Dive. Our Speakers, Arun Ramachandran and Dr. Rameshan, will speak on the Montane Shola Grassland Restoration, a Case Study from the Western Ghats in India.
About our speakers:
Arun Ramachandran G
Arun is passionate about promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable development models through his work and has led biodiversity conservation programmes in the Western Ghats in South India. He has held the position of the State Project Coordinator for the United Nations Development Programme, Global Environment Facility, and the Government of India led India High Range Mountain Landscape Project with the Government of Kerala, a southern state in India.
He has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Aadhimalai, a tribal producer cooperative incubated by Keystone Foundation in Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, India. He holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management and is currently working with Rang De (rangde.in), a social startup providing accessible credit to the poor through a unique Peer to Peer lending model.
Dr Rameshan M
Dr Rameshan is a Conservation Ecologist with 15 years of professional experience including 10 years of post-doctoral experience with State, Central Government, International Development Agencies like UNDP and International NGOs like the WWF. He is specialized in Human-Wildlife Interface Management, Ecosystem Restoration, Landscape Ecology, Coastal Zone Management, Biodiversity Conservation, Natural Resources Management and Rural Livelihood Improvement, Forest Right Act, Remote Sensing and GIS techniques for natural resources management (Forests, Wildlife and other Ecosystems) & Environmental Impact Assessment.
Currently he with KPMG as Environment Specialist and involved in a World Bank Initiative, Programme for Results –building climate resilience to rebuild the state of Kerala by integrating climate and disaster risk into the development. His previous assignment was with United Nations Development Programme as Project Officer (Conservation & Ecology), as Project Scientist B with National Centre for Erath Science Studies of Ministry of Earth Science and as Project Scientist II with National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management of Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change.
