Katelyn Miller, Collin College Blackland Prairie Restoration Project Co-Chair

The Collin College Blackland prairie project is not yet a year old and we have made great strides with only 4 feet on the ground. Most of the work days include seed harvesting, identification, and battling invasives. The current target goal is increasing diversity and covering bare ground that is open to invasives and erosion. To that goal, we have secured our second grant for seed through the Blackland Prairie chapter which was matched by the college.
We are already seeing results in the first area seeded in early spring with multiple species of native grasses taking hold. On September 20th, we will be stomping this latest batch of seed into a different area that is located at the corner facing highway 380. Prime viewing for the community. The area has open ground that needs to be filled with natives to help hold the soil, push back the invasives, and be a positive view to the community.
Snacks will be provided, and seed dispersal devices needed. If you have any questions please feel to email Katelyn Miller at [email protected] or Heather Fell at [email protected]
