David Powell, 2007 | Past President | Erwin Park and Wylie Prairie Project Lead
Even in August with no rain and heat our team is at Erwin Park on Monday mornings. Yes we do clear underbrush from the tree lines within the circle and cut trees out in the prairie and that is all a beneficial contribution to the beauty of the place. It has always been as important for those of who are working to spend time examining the natural growth in the prairie. We enjoy this time to share our knowledge and learn from each other as we wonder amongst the vegetation. We also add observations to iNaturalist while we are at it.
On the this day we started by observing a Swallow Tail butterfly seeking nectar from Scabiousa, yes it is one of our flowering plant on the prairie and it still has flowers. Peter was a new helper this day, checking out the project, I hope he returns. The more the merrier. We generally work for an hour and half and then go exploring the prairie for an hour and half. To me a big part of restoration is education both of yourself and of others with that we can improve our own conservation efforts.
Hope to see you down the road.
