Our Tribe’s Fortune 500 – Susan Makuta

500 Hours Silver Pin

Susan Makuta, 2021

I am a member of the class of 2021.

I volunteer at the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center. I am on the Monday rehab team caring for the birds of prey. I am with a great team and I have learned so much there. I have also assisted with some deconstruction work on the education enclosures. Additionally, I help with various activities with public events for BPRC.

I also volunteer at the Heard Nature Preserve. I have worked in the gardens with Amy, taken trail guide training with Dave Powell, assisted at various events and will be participating in the chrysalis pinning.

I have enjoyed some work days at the Heritage Farmstead.

I will be involved in the Oak Point Park Project maintaining soft surface trails.

I am also on the Training Committee and the newly established Accessibility Initiative Committee.

I stayed with the chapter after training because I really enjoyed the training and really feel fortunate to have met so many people who love nature as much as I do.  It is a privilege to be exposed to the amazing experts thru the training and the multitude of chapter opportunities. The chapter does a very good job of communicating a ton of information with it’s members. I so wish I would have found the Master Naturalist opportunity sooner. I love it and I am trying to make the most of the opportunities within the time I can dedicate to volunteering and helping make a difference in various areas.  Many thanks to everyone who makes all of this possible.
