Jean Higgins, Class of 2023
Excitement is brewing in Plano as we kick off our groundbreaking Plano Parks project with a bang! Our inaugural workday at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve saw an incredible turnout of 17 enthusiastic individuals, braving the cold to make a monumental difference. Together, we tackled the invasive privet, and the results were nothing short of awe-inspiring – a staggering 620 pounds removed in just one day!
But that’s just the beginning. Our journey with the Plano Parks project will also take us to other locations like Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, Hoblitzelle Park, Windhaven Meadows Park, and Stoney Hallow Park. Throughout the year, we’ll be on a mission to transform these natural wonders by clearing out invasive species, reclaiming prairies and woodlands, and restoring the beauty of our beloved parks.
Join us as we embark on this adventure, where every effort counts towards preserving the splendor of our community’s green spaces. Together, we’ll sow the seeds of change, nurture our native habitats, and create a legacy of environmental stewardship that will echo for generations to come. Let’s make a difference for the wildlife in Plano!
Our work will include:
-Removing invasive species in the prairies and woodland areas
-removing woody natives from the prairies
-removing invasive herbaceous species
-collect and distribute native seeds
-Remove trash as needed
