The BPTMN February 2021 Chapter meeting will be held online this month using the ZOOM Application. Our guest speaker will be BPTMN member Ernie Stokely who will speak on the topic of responsible stewardship of planet earth.
Program: Blackland Prairie Chapter February 2021 Monthly Meeting
Date: Tuesday, February 9, 2021
Time: 7:00 pm-8:30 pm
Naturalist Talk Speaker | Topic: Ernie Stokely | “From Quarks to You and Me: We are All in This Together,”
The talk will trace the story of the evolution of the universe through the present time and will tell the story of how we all came to be. Our species has only been here 200,000 years and we already find ourselves overpopulating the planet and causing all kinds of havoc. Will we be able to modify our behavior? Can we become better stewards of our Planet Earth? Will our species survive? Join us for this talk and find out!
Ernie came to Texas in 1959 with a BS degree in electrical engineering and went to work at Texas Instruments. In 1972 he completed the Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from a joint SMU-UT Southwestern program and joined UT Southwestern in the Department of Radiology. During his career he had appointments in computer science at UT Arlington and in biomedical engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Ernie retired in 2002. He and his wife returned to Dallas to be near their kids and grandkids.
He has always had an abiding interesting in the outdoors and birding and retirement has given him the chance to return to some earlier interests in nature. Going through training in the Master Naturalist program has been one of the most fun and satisfying things he has ever done. Ernie is looking forward to being able to lead kids on outdoor field trips and participate in group projects again.
