Adopt-a-Highway (AAH) Clean-Up Event

Note: This VMS opportunity also qualifies as a Texas Waters Specialist project if you are member of that group!
Our next Adopt-a-Highway (AAH) cleanup in Columbus at the North Bridge on US Bus 71 will be Saturday, April 11th, from 9:00-11:00am. For anyone up for it, we can meet up afterwards for lunch at Frontier Rodeo in Columbus.
This AAH event will be held in conjunction with the town’s Trash Off Day, a part of Keep Columbus Beautiful sponsored by the Columbus Garden Club. We will take a group photo at 9am and again at the end with the trash bags for not only our publicity, but also for Keep Columbus Beautiful – a great way to get the TX Master Naturalist name out to the public!
Sign in and get your segment assignment at the paved parking lot below the bridge. Team pic at 9am, if you come later, you can be in the pic taken with the trash bags at the end by the TMN GLC AAH sign at north end of bridge.
Meeting Place
Navigate in your map to “Columbus Loop on the Colorado River Boat Launch”. Note that the meet-up location is on the Colorado River under a bridge…some maps have another Columbus Loop that is a short road off State Hwy 71 that can confuse you. Map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/
Tips:
- Wear long pants and sturdy closed toe shoes (boots are ideal) for your safety.
- Bring: Gloves, grabber if you have it (a few are available to loan), sun protection, and water.
- You may also find it helpful to bring a bucket to use to collect trash as it is easier for some than keeping a plastic bag open.
- Also, it is helpful to bring a bucket or smaller bag to separate aluminum cans that are recycled by the project leader.
Trash bags, potato bags (for collecting cans to recycle) orange vests, rubber gloves, and a few grabbers are provided.
