Event Description:
One Water is an integrated planning and implementation approach to managing finite water resources for long-term resilience and reliability, meeting both community and ecosystem needs. Although similar to Integrated Water Resource Management, One Water fiercely advocates for equity and the environment while employing advanced urban water conservation techniques to achieve its goals. After the scare of the 2011 drought, Austin undertook a One Water-styled water planning approach to plan for 100 years in the future while considering climate change, resulting in a water plan with several advanced water conservation features such as community-scale stormwater harvesting, sewer mining, and indirect potable reuse. With limitations in the state water planning process, other cities are considering similar planning processes, including Houston.
