Event Summary:
Paint an anatomically accurate American Avocet egg with science illustrator Jane Kim.
Event Description:
Join science illustrator Jane Kim for a special egg-painting workshop.
From the light blue of an American Robin’s egg, to the ruby red of a Cetti’s Warlber’s egg, an egg’s color is entirely created by just two pigments! Science still hasn’t unpacked how the rich variety of bird egg colorations come about. During this educational painting workshop, we’ll share and celebrate the mystery of nature’s painting process as we hand paint our own wooden egg.
Artist, science illustrator, and Wall of Birds creator Jane Kim will lead participants through a step-by-step egg painting journey. Workshop tickets include access to the workshop, as well as a physical kit to follow along with. Each kit includes a life-size, lathe-turned wooden egg modeled after the American Avocet’s egg, as well as paints to color it with. By the end of the course, participants will have their own stunning and accurate model of one of nature’s most important treasures.
Jane’s workshop will be live on Zoom. She’ll be demonstrating different techniques while you follow along. If you have questions for Jane, you’ll be able to ask using the Zoom Q&A feature. Jane will take time throughout the workshop to respond to your most frequently asked questions. Closed captioning will be available during the live workshop and in the recording.
This workshop will be recorded and sent to all participants within a week of the event. This recording will be available for viewing for three months after the workshop.
