The treasure – the discovery of an uncommon morning-glory species.

Sheryl Smith-Rodgers with Texas Master Naturalists photographed at home in Blanco, TX for TPW magazine story

During our adventure Sheryl will share

  • how to dig to rescue bulbs
  • how she uses iNaturalist to maintain a species list for her yard . At Window on a Texas Wildscape, she blogs about the native habitat she and her husband
  • explore at their home. So far, Sheryl’s documented approximately 1,080+ species in their yard using iNaturalist!
  • how the app helped her ultimately identify the morning-glory.

(THEN the vine turned out to be rare, which motivated a plant conservationist to join in collecting plants and seeds. More adventures follow, of course.)

Takeaway: We as citizen scientists and naturalists play an important role in preserving and protecting our natural heritage.
