Keeping your hives alive!
Event Description:
A must class for beekeepers who have managed to keep their hives alive for one or two years and are now needing to know techniques in caring for their bees not only to ensure their survival but to maximize their potential!
This six hour class covers what beekeeping is all about including but not limited to:
– Reading your frames
-What is going on in your hive based on the season
-Setting up a nuc
-Re-queening
-Queen right hives
-Queen problems
-Swarm identification and management
-Artifical Splits
-Vertical Splits
-How to increase honey production
-Varroa mite counts
-Swarm Traps
Without mastering these techniques and concepts you stand a greater chance of loosing your hives.
We have fun at the same time in this class and develop networking with other beekeepers. We put into practice what we learned in class when we go into the bee yard!
Class starts at 9:00 am.and we work through lunch so bring some brown bag munchies for lunch time. Iced tea and water will be available.
Wear closed shoes (no sneakers) and no perfumes/aftershaves as we will be working in the bee yard for 1 1/2 hours. If you have a bee suit bring it. If not we will provide you with one.
