Event Summary:
This event is Texas Stream Team Standard Core Training. Learn how to sample and test water.

Event Description:
This event offers training in the Texas Stream Team “Standard Core” monitoring. The Core includes water quality tests for a variety of indicators, including clarity, pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity. Training will be conducted by ABK SNA Volunteers who have tested here and elsewhere, and trainers from The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment, which is providing the kits including chemicals and instruments. The Texas Stream Team has ample instructional materials on its website and You Tube. You can review those before the event, but that is not required. This training will take you through the Core three times. Having completed this training and given your commitment to quality control protocols, you will be able to participate in monitoring at sites across the state.

The main purpose of this event, however, is to improve the capability of our volunteers to do baseline surveys prior to infrastructure development and public access here. Attendance is limited by the availability of vehicles and certified drivers, but we anticipate repeating the training in the near future. In the event of inclement weather or other circumstances we will reschedule.

Arrive promptly. The ride to the pond is at least 15 minutes. Bring what you normally would for a short day hike: water, snacks, repellant, sunscreen, etc.

Participants who are not established volunteers at ABK SNA will be asked to sign a TPWD liability waiver.

All participants must complete and submit a Training Enrollment Form: https://www.meadowscenter.txst.edu/Leadership/TexasStreamTeam/Forms-and-Resources/TrainingEnrollment.html
