Calling all Citizen Science Volunteers! You too can monitor precipitation and contribute to a national database. Sign up for the CoCoRaHS training.

What: CoCoRaHS (pronounced KO-ko-rozz) is an acronym for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. CoCoRaHS is a unique, non-profit, community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow) in all fifty states. These precipitation reports are then recorded on the Web site www.cocorahs.org. Yes, you can submit data via a phone call or by using a smartphone app too!
CoCoRaHS is used by The National Weather Service, other meteorologists, hydrologists, emergency managers, city utilities (water supply, water conservation, storm water), insurance adjusters, USDA, engineers, mosquito control, ranchers and farmers, outdoor & recreation interests, teachers, students, and neighbors in the community.
Come learn about CoCoRaHS, their mission and goals and how it works to provide accurate high-quality precipitation data for many end users on a timely basis. You too can have fun learning more about meteorological science and weather awareness by participating in this volunteer service. There will be a detailed presentation on the collection, measurement, and reporting of precipitation from your location (no traveling involved) with opportunities to get your questions answered. A supply of the required rain gauges will be available for purchase at the training by cash or check.
Coffee and refreshments will be served. Please bring your own cup, plate & utensils.
