This AT will introduce the fascinating basic science of ecology. Our chapter members are champion restorers of prairie and wetland habitat and knowledgeable educators of the beach, bay, birds, plants and much more, but how much do we understand the underlying concepts that drive the diversity in our area?

In “Why Do Organisms Live Where They Live” we’ll explore:

· What are limiting factors and how do we figure them out?

· What makes an ecological niche?

· What drives the geographical distributions of plants and animals?

· Distribution maps of some of our favorite (or not-so-favorite) species
