VOL – Stormwater wetland

January 15, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Meet at the nursery and we will split into two crews. The home team will start on a flat of young spider lilies/ Hymenocallis liriosme. The away team will collect plants in the Bay Area, likely soft rush/Juncus effusus which stays green in winter. The collection crew will head back to the nursery with more material to pot up. The forecast for Thursday predicts no precipitation and a nice moderate high of 580.

The nursery is near 1719 Neptune Lane, Clear Lake City (Houston) 77062. Park along the street near the bridge (from which you can see the nursery) and take the northeast trail.

 Last week:

Despite cold weather we had a terrific turnout for cleaning seed in the TCWP conference room. With the help of Pete, Peggy, Martha, Annasheril, Sandra, Lydia, Ray, Nancy, Dick, Diane, Mary and Cullen, we processed over a pound of Swamp rose-mallow/Hibiscus moscheutos seeds and a large bag of Bushy bluestem/Andropogon glomeratus. These seeds will be used at Sheldon Lake State Park and the Pearland Nature Center.  Appreciation goes to Pete who shared his Stream Team water quality findings for the wetland nursery and the Pearland Nature Center site.

 Upcoming dates:

Thursday Jan 22: Nursery work PLUS concurrent Clear Lake area plant collecting trip.

Thursday Jan 29: TBD

Save the Date: March 7 and 8: Floating wetland and habitat wetland planting at the John Hargrove Environmental Complex in Pearland.

Note: GBAMN spring training begins Feb 12. Some of you may be involved in that effort and please know that training comes first. We will be here when you get back!

Thank you for your participation!
