VOL – Stormwater Wetland Thursday
All, Here is the stormwater wetland volunteer update for next week:
This Thursday: March 26, 9am-12
We will have two activities this week: potting Gulf cordgrass/ Spartina spartinae and other species in the wetland nursery, and collecting Thinscale sedge/ Carex hyalinolepis near League City. We will meet in the nursery and divide into two groups based on your preference.
The nursery is near 1801 Neptune Lane, Clear Lake City (Houston) 77062. Park along the street near the bridge (from which you can see the nursery) and take the northeast trail.
Last week:
Our morning in the wetland nursery began with a walk among the ponds to see what was responding to the change in seasons. Not only are the plants coming out of dormancy, dragonflies and damselflies have begun emerging and flying, leaving their old exoskeletons behind as a clue to their species. After our pond peering, we potted up 220 softrush/Juncus effusus and 45 Gulf cordgrass/ Spartina spartinae. Thank you to Paula, Gail, Nancy, Ray, Lydia, Martha, Pete, Peggy, and new volunteers Letitia and Jody.
Upcoming dates:

Thursday Apr 9: TBD
