VOL – Stormwater Wetland Thursday

This Thursday: April 9, 9am-12

We’re hitting the road to Brazoria County to collect Powdery alligator flag/Thalia dealbata before it gets hot and buggy. Volunteers can go directly to the collection site OR carpool in the TCWP van from Clear Lake. The van will leave promptly at 9am from the office at 1250 Bay Area Blvd, and the transit time is a little over an hour. The collection locations are along Business 288 north of Angleton and south of the Hwy 288 intersection. Local volunteers will meet at 9am at the picnic area 0.5 miles south of the CR45/Business288 intersection before going together to the Thalia patches. Volunteers going directly to the site will need to bring shovels. The TCWP van will arrive with the trailer (and snacks!) after 10.  

Last week:

We worked in the wetland nursery potting 198 Gulf cordgrass/Spartina spartinae as well as Water primrose/Ludwigia, Iris, and other species that had been waiting for us. We also loaded supplies for an aquatic plants class held on Thursday at the detention basin at Clear Falls High School. About 15 bulrush balls were made by the students.

 Upcoming dates:

Thursday Apr 16: TBD. (The previously mentioned stormwater wetland planting in the TX Medical Center will be done by MD Anderson for the purposes of the contract)  

Thursday Apr 23: Nursery work with Cullen. Mary will be at a workshop.

Saturday Apr 25: Earth Day at Exploration Green. Visitors to the tree and wetland nurseries will get a chance to see what we do here and get their hands dirty. Docents will be needed. in the Texas Medical Center. Please note that the Wetland Field Day at Sheldon Lake has been rescheduled to the fall.

Note: GBAMN spring training began Feb 12. Some of you may be involved in that effort and please know that training comes first. We will be here when you get back.
