All, Here is the stormwater wetland volunteer update for this week.
This Thursday: May 21, 9am-12
We’ll meet in the wetland nursery again this week to divide lizard tail/Saururus cernuus, pulling out plants for the MD Anderson wetlands, and making a few bulrush bombs for a test at the Pearland wetland site.
The nursery is near 1801 Neptune Lane, Clear Lake City (Houston) 77062. Park along the street near the bridge (from which you can see the nursery) and take the northeast trail.
Thursday afternoon, 2pm, Mary Carol will be hosting a “Task Force” meeting for the stormwater wetland program at the Galveston Bay Estuary Program offices. The present and future development of the program will be discussed. If you would like to attend, please let me know at mcedwards@tamu.edu.
Last week:
We learned how to make divisions of lizard tail and propagate more plants from the stems, adding about 60 plants. We also finished bumping up the spider lilies into larger pots, almost completely filling a tank! Thank you, Joe, Martha, Annasheril, Nancy, Ray, Lydia, and new GBAMN graduates Sandy and CC!
Upcoming dates:
May 28: Thinning/collecting plants from Pine Brook wetlands www.PineBrookWetlands.com) plus nursery work
June 4: Nursery work and local collecting trip TBA
