VOL – Stormwater Wetland volunteering, Thursday March 19

March 19, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

It is technically Spring Break for TX A&M employees, but I’ll be at the nursery to continue as usual. Being out in the park is pleasant, so it’s like taking a break. And it certainly is showing signs of spring! Come and see. In addition to potting, we will walk through the ponds and see how the various species are breaking dormancy.

The nursery is near 1801 Neptune Lane, Clear Lake City (Houston) 77062. Park along the street near the bridge (from which you can see the nursery) and take the northeast trail.

 Last week:

First let me extend my very great appreciation to Jerry, Chatt, Tom, and Marissa, who helped us load plants in the nursery and stage them at the planting site in Pearland before the March 7 event. It was especially helpful while I was on crutches that week. Couldn’t have done it without you!

Tuesday the floating wetlands were launched with the help of the Pearland Parks and Rec staff, Don from the COT chapter, and Martha, who took photos.

Thursday volunteers turned up in the nursery despite the drizzle. Lydia, Joe and Ray potted up approximately 50 pickerel weed/Pontederia  cordata and 100 softrush/ Juncus effusus.  It was damp but lovely.

 Upcoming dates:

Thursday March 26: Concurrent potting in the wetland nursery and local collecting trip for Carex

Thursday Apr 2: TBD
