Inner Space Caverns and Interstate 35

Join TxDOT staff and University of Texas at Austin professor Dr. John Moretti on Wednesday, June 10 | 12–1 PM as we journey beneath Interstate Highway 35 in Georgetown to explore how a highway project can open a new way of understanding the world beneath us. Take a walk into the past, present, and future of Inner Space Caverns and learn how TXDOT has played a role along the way.

Dr. Moretti will discuss the prehistoric significance of the cave based on his own research. We will explore how remote sensing technologies are revolutionizing cave mapping, overcoming the challenges of low-light, GPS-denied environments through cutting-edge, non-invasive solutions like LiDAR scans that reveal complex speleological features. Finally, we will share how data collected in this remote environment informs future transportation projects.
