Going, Going, Gone: Preserving Rare Plants in Southeast Texas.

With nearly 5,000 native plant species, Texas has one of the highest numbers of plant biodiversity in the United States. But it also has one of the highest rates of rare, threatened, or endangered plant species. Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens is working closely with these species to learn more about them and conserve their populations in the wild.

About the Speaker

Kari Hernandez is the Plant Collections Curator at Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens in Harris County, Texas. As curator, Kari oversees the Garden’s living plant collections, as well as the preserved plants of the Dr. Larry E. Brown Herbarium at the Mercer Botanical Center. As a life-long naturalist, Kari has spent her career dedicated to the study and conservation of the flora and fauna of the Gulf Coast.
