Water Wednesdays: Basics of Texas Water Law

Presentation Summary:

The program will provide an overview of Texas water law and the legal distinctions between groundwater, surface water, and diffused surface water. Participants will learn about the Rule of Capture, groundwater conservation district regulations, surface water permitting requirements, navigable streams, and key court cases that continue to shape water rights in Texas. The discussion will also examine recent controversies and emerging legal issues and highlight the current state of Texas water law in today’s evolving political and regulatory environment. The presentation encourages landowners and natural resource managers to better understand how water rights, permits, and regulations may affect their properties and management decisions. Tiffany E.
